Restorative Breathing
Discover the transformative power of the breath.
Developing awareness of breathing is central to much of my therapy work. I incorporate
Restorative Breathing techniques into psychotherapy sessions and also offer breathing
coaching as a separate service for those who are interested in learning about breathing
only. Individual and group sessions are available.
What is Restorative Breathing?
I use the term ‘Restorative Breathing’ to describe a gentle approach for utilizing
the natural breathing process to facilitate emotional growth and physical well-being.
I incorporate awareness, simple movements, imagery, and easy yoga postures to help
the mind and body connect with the experience of optimal healthy breathing.
Benefits of Restorative Breathing
- Decrease emotional, mental and physical stress
- Develop insight to your emotions
-
Increase your ability to tolerate emotions
- Cultivate harmony between your mind and body
- Improve the efficiency of your
breathing
- Increase physical energy level
Background
I have always been drawn toward exploring natural processes of healing and self-care.
I first began to observe my own breathing about ten years ago. Since then I have
become increasingly fascinated with the power of breathing awareness, as I’ve gained
more knowledge and insight to the process and its applications. My quest to learn
about breathing has led me to explore science, medicine, yoga, meditation, athletics,
singing, martial arts, dance and mind-body psychology. My learning process is ongoing
and I continue to be amazed by the almost overwhelming wealth of knowledge that
is interspersed through these various fields.
My goal as a psychologist and teacher is to assimilate as much information as possible
and transform it into a form that is practical and useful for the common person
who wishes to use breathing awareness for personal development. What I share with
my breathing students is a compilation of hundreds of hours of reading, observing,
inquiring, and experimenting. My aim is to offer elegantly simple methods for using
the breath for growth and transformation.
